Pet Pharmacy:
Sentinel® (Flea & Heartworm Control in Dogs)

Sentinel® works to protect against fleas and heartworms.  It comes in an oral flavor tablet which the dog chews as a treat, and is administered once a month.  The tablet can be given directly by mouth if the dog refuses to eat it.  Sentinel®  is not available for cats.

Sentinel®  is a combination of Program®  (fleas) and Interceptor®  (heartworm) medications in one tablet.  Click on the above products to learn more of how each product works for your pet.  Sentinel®  has the same effect as if you were to give Program®  and Interceptor®  to your dog separately.  The combination product is for convenience only.

If you have your dog on Program®  and Interceptor®, or another monthly heartworm pill such as Heartgard®, and the two products are working well for you, than changing to Sentinel®  would be recommended.

Check with your veterinarian for recommendations on what's best for your pet.
