EMERGENCY:

 

Any condition which threatens the life of your pet. Usually requires immediate veterinary attention. Some emergencies are obvious, as in motor vehicle accidents. Others however may not be so recognizable.

Poisonings- Most household products are not meant for ingestion by people or pets.  Any suspected ingestion should be called to your local veterinarian or call The ASPCA National Animal Poison Control Center.  Rat poison ingestion, antifreeze ingestion, are among the more commonly seen life threatening medical emergencies. 

Listed below are common signs of a Pet Emergency:

1.  Seizure lasting longer than 3-4 minutes, or occurring in succession with less than  1/2 hour between episodes.

2.  Straining to urinate in dogs - in cats.

3.  Lack of consciousness.

4.  Vomiting more than 6-8 times in 12 hours.

5.  Difficulty breathing.

6.  Bloating (distension) of the abdomen.

7.  Excessive blood loss from injury, rectally, or orally in vomit.

8.  Squinting or painful, red eye(s).

If your pet is experiencing any of the above problems, contact your veterinarian or emergency hospital for immediate attention.
