New treatments for fleas are continuing
to be developed. Years of using flea "sprays",
"dips", and "powders", are slowly
but surely being replaced by newer, more effective products.
Oral medications, topical spot on medications,
and injections, have all recently been developed
to continue this war against the persistent flea.
There is an abundance of these newer flea products on
the market, either sold by your veterinarian, "over
the counter", in pet catalogues - you can even
order flea products online.
Treatment for fleas may vary dependent
upon the weather conditions in your area. Persistent
temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit will kill the
adult flea, and keep the flea egg and pupae from hatching.
Treatment can be suspended for fleas in
winter months supporting these temperatures, as long
as the indoor environment is kept flea free.
Listed below by name are the most popular flea products
on the market today, how they work, and how well they
may work in your area.
